They started off on May 1st 1883 as the Philadelphia Quakers. The Quakers lost their first game 4-3 and went on an 8 game skid. The point of all this is that it's not so extraordinary to be a loser. In fact it is much more common to be a loser than a winner. Winners are unique in the fact that they triumph over the masses. So that fact that many news papers made note of the fact of the Phillies 10,000 loses does not make them a horrible organization. Considering they have been in existence for more than 100 years is a testament to their good business sense and means more than their 10,000 loses ever will.
